John C. Werden was a highly respected attorney, public servant, and community leader whose career reflected a deep commitment to integrity and service. Born in Maquoketa, Iowa, he graduated from Albia High School, earned his Bachelor of Arts from Grinnell College, and received his Juris Doctor from Drake University.
John was an accomplished trial lawyer with a primary focus on life and estate planning, tax planning, trusts, probate, elder law, real estate, and commercial transactions. He served as Carroll County Attorney beginning in 1998 and was re elected continuously, prosecuting state criminal matters and serving as legal counsel to county officials.
Throughout his career, John held numerous leadership roles within the legal profession and was admitted to practice before state and federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court. He was also a devoted father to his children Chase, Meredith, and Madison, and a proud grandfather to Emmy, Ivy, Ruby, Indy, and Peter. John enjoyed bike riding, hunting, marksmanship, and boating with family and friends.
